l'esprit de l'escalier

I wish I was a bit more insane so I could have friends in my head.

I am here

I don't remember where or when I read this but it has stuck in my mind,
It was an article by a man who has travelled and worked in something like 80 or some large number of countries.
He had observed the way we greet one another and express feelings. They ways of greeting he had observed had gone along the
lines of a sterile "hey, how are you?", a handshake, touching of foreheads, rubbing noses, kissing cheeks, bowing etc.
But what he encountered in remote communities in Africa I enjoyed the most.
He would see nomads that had been travelling for months, without seeing another human. He had the pleasure of seeing two nomads cross paths
in the deserts of Africa. They had stood infront of each other and simply held eye contact for 10-15seconds, then said something
In an unfamiliar language, the man writing this article asked what they had said, and all the words that were exchanged
to passing nomads were one saying "I am here" and the other replying with "I see you", then they move/d on.
I don't know why but those words have been running through my head since I read it.
And I just think thats so nice to look into someones eyes, acknowledging their presence and that's all that has to be done. No bullshit smalltalk.
So today I made the choice (may of seemed a little creepy to some) to just look into someones eyes for at least 10seconds,
saying in my head, I see you.
But not saying anything with words. And honestly I think I have shared a more intimate and personal experience with strangers today and captured a sense of conversing for a long time within just a few brief moments then I have with people I have known my whole life.

The beautiful Abbi & Caitlin, on the ferry to Venice.

I don't want to just upload a bunch of photos from Europe and have them be all the same as my ones on facebook, so I'm going to do just some indivdual ones, then some that'll be grouped together. All in good time though my friends.
